 October 28, 2026

Takara Bio Europe announces the introduction of a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-grade version of Cellartis® MSC EV Wonder™, its defined, xeno-free medium developed for the efficient and scalable production of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). The addition of a GMP-grade version expands the Cellartis portfolio, supporting the transition from early-stage EV research towards clinical development and manufacturing applications.

MSC-derived EVs are gaining increasing attention as promising candidates for next-generation cell-free therapies, particularly in regenerative medicine, immunomodulation and drug delivery. However, translating EV-based approaches from laboratory research to clinical applications requires consistent production processes, reproducible product quality and suitable manufacturing materials.

Originally developed to address challenges in EV yield and reproducibility, Cellartis MSC EV Wonder has demonstrated up to a nine-fold increase in EV production compared with conventional DMEM while maintaining essential EV characteristics, including canonical CD marker expression, morphology and RNA profiles. Its defined, phenol red-free formulation shares the same basal medium as the Cellartis MSC Xeno-Free Culture System, facilitating a streamlined workflow from MSC expansion to EV production.

With the introduction of the GMP-grade version, Takara Bio Europe aims to further support developers seeking to establish robust and scalable MSC-EV manufacturing workflows. The availability of GMP-grade medium provides an additional option for organizations advancing EV-based applications towards clinical translation, where material quality, process consistency and manufacturing controls become increasingly important.

"As interest in extracellular vesicle-based therapeutics continues to grow, the need for reliable and scalable manufacturing solutions becomes increasingly important," said Tarik Hadi, PhD, Senior Market Strategy Manager at Takara Bio Europe. "By expanding Cellartis MSC EV Wonder with a GMP-grade option, we are strengthening our support for developers working to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and clinical translation."

The GMP-grade version of Cellartis MSC EV Wonder™ is scheduled for launch on 28 October 2026. Researchers and organizations interested in learning more about the medium, its applications or technical specifications are encouraged to contact Takara Bio Europe at [infoEU@takarabio.com](mailto:infoEU@takarabio.com).
